Mark your calendars: next Tuesday, retiring carillonneur Auke de Boer will plays requests from UKrant readers for the last time. Below, you’ll find a little taste of what to expect.
The selection ranges from Bach and Schubert to Queen and Ede Staal. Carillonneur Auke de Boer had a hard time picking suitable song from the list of requests that UKrant received a few weeks ago. Readers requested a total of forty-six different songs, some several times.
Auke picked approximately twenty songs that he’ll be playing on Tuesday, December 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. UKrant made a Spotify list of the original versions. Most of them, anyway, since some classics couldn’t be found on Spotify.
Anyone who’d like to hear the UG carillonneur play after Tuesday will get one more chance on December 21. Auke will play the Academy bells for the last time that day. After that, he’s retiring.
Next week in UKrant: an interview, with photos, of the man who ‘sprinkled music over the city’ for the past twenty-five years.
