This is the reason the Senate room is filled with portraits

The Senate room in the Academy building is full of them: stately portraits of professors who used to work at the UG. Today, another one will be added: that of retired professor of history Klaas van Berkel. But who paints these portraits? How did this tradition get started? Jolanda Oosterheert, who studies the professorial portraits, and painter Egbert Modderman explain it all.
