Students and staff from Ukraine and Russia appeal to emergency fund

Approximately twenty people have appealed to the special emergency fund for students and staff from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.

Some of the applications were approved immediately, says board president Jouke de Vries. Other cases are more complicated and require further investigating.

The UG is also ready to receive students and staff from particularly Ukraine. Many of them are currently still staying along the border, but De Vries expect many of them will start finding their ways to other countries soon. ‘We’ll do what we can to help people from those countries who want to come work here.’

That’s not necessarily a simple process, De Vries emphasises. There are many rules the UG has to abide by. He does think these rules will soon change on a national level. ‘That would make it easier for us.’
