Nature’s lawnmowers back at Zernike

The pigs on the Zernike Campus may have been thanked for their services, but the sheep have returned to work to keep the grass short and promote biodiversity. The herd of fifty animals will remain there until October. They eat only grass and leave the flowers untouched, allowing more food to remain for insects than if the grass were mowed. Additionally, the sheep help spread seeds through their fur and dung. UKrant sought out the animals and shepherd Nico at the Zonneweide.
