Freezing temperatures at UG may persist until Tuesday

Even with the heating on full blast, some buildings at the university are so cold you can almost see your breath. It might take until Tuesday before the temperatures are back to normal.

According to one student at the Medical Faculty, it’s barely thirteen degrees Celsius inside building 3111 on the Antonius Deusinglaan, which houses the Medical Imaging Center. And nothing seems to be helping.

UG spokesperson Elies Wempe-Kouwenhoven confirms that some locations still feel very cold. ‘The buildings have been closed for two weeks, and the heating has been off that entire time. It takes a while for them to warm up again’, she says.

How long this will take varies depending on the space, Wempe-Kouwenhoven explains. ‘Some locations are more affected than others. The fact that it’s nearly freezing outside doesn’t help, either. This slows down the warming process.’

The heating was only turned back on today, and according to the UG, it might take until Tuesday for all locations to return to normal working temperatures.
