Carrying candles and flowers galore, dozens of UG employees and students gathered on the steps of the Academy building to remember the victims of the disastrous earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that took place on the night of February 5.
The Groningen Turkish Student Community had organised the memorial service.
People could light candles, lay down flowers, and donate money to aid organisations active in the disaster region. The death toll has risen to 47,000. Thousands of people are missing and nearly two million people have become homeless.
The UG site has more information on how the university is helping.
Donations can be made to Giro 555.
