Usva and UKrant host debate on Internationalisation in Balance Act

Under the title ‘May we stay? A conversation about the future of international students in Groningen’, cultural student centre Usva and UKrant will host a debate on June 20 about the Internationalisation in Balance Act.

The anglicisation of higher education and the influx of international students has been a hot topic in Dutch politics for years. It even became one of the important themes in the last elections.

Handle on knowledge migration

According to politicians in The Hague, the Internationalisation in Balance Act should ensure a handle on so-called ‘knowledge migration’. But the new right-wing cabinet may well take a much stricter line. Will international students continue to be welcome in Groningen? And what are the consequences of fewer internationals for the UG?

At Usva, international students can talk to Jouke de Vries (chairman of the board of the University of Groningen), Lucy Avraamidou (professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering), and Rosanne Hertzberger (Lower House member for New Social Contract, policy area education, culture and science).

The evening is organised by Usva and UKrant: Thursday, June 20, 2024, start time 8.30 p.m. at Usva, Munnekeholm 10. Tickets 3 euros (for students) or 6 euros (other) via Usva. Note: be quick, as places are limited.
