Cisca Wijmenga, the first female rector in the more than 400-year existence of the UG, has been appointed to the supervisory board of Leiden University. Wijmenga passed the baton to new rector Jacquelien Scherpen at the end of August after a four-year tenure.
Wijmenga began her academic career in Leiden, receiving her PhD in genetics from the Institute of Biology in 1993. ‘It is a great honour to join the supervisory board at the university where I obtained my PhD thirty years ago,’ she said on Twitter/X.
