As if exam season isn’t hard enough, students in need of a dose of caffeine at the UB were served spoiled coffee by the third-floor coffee machine.
Messages about mould and sour milk started circulating last week. A screenshot of one of the messages has been shared so often that WhatsApp now flags it as ‘forwarded many times’.
It’s true, confirms university spokesperson Elies Kouwenhoven: there’s a problem with the coffee machine. ‘There is a persistent blockage in the drain’, she says, though it is still unknown what exactly caused it.
Drains sealed
As a result, the milk has gone off and there’s now a bad smell near the machine, which has been switched off. ‘Douwe Egberts and the UG have been made aware of the situation’, says Kouwenhoven. ‘The drains will be temporarily sealed to prevent any odour nuisance.’
Though the WhatsApp message claims some students have fallen ill because of the spoiled milk, Kouwenhoven says the UB hasn’t gotten any complaints about that.
