This week, the university and faculty council elections are taking place. Student factions are campaigning at the city centre and Zernike campus.
‘My goal is getting as many as students to log in and vote’, says Michal Tesnar, a candidate of De Vrije Student, the student party at university council. All students and staff can access the online UG environment to cast votes.
Michal used the flag of De Vrije Student to dress up as a superhero to draw students’ attention next to the Bernoulliborg building. Once pedestrians are interested in his outfit, he gets to explain how important it’s to vote.
‘The voting rate was too low last year, around twenty per cent. I want to raise awareness and represent more students,’ he says.
Connect
Shawn I. Pallagi (21), a candidate of Partij Studenten Belangen at Faculty Council of Behavioural and Social Sciences, is campaigning in the Heymans building. Although he will get the seat because of the same number of candidates: ‘We want to connect to the students we represent and let them know what we are going to do for them.’
The members of the factions are in front of the Harmony Building, Academy Building, and Duisenberg Building this week. Students can go and talk with them to know who will be their voice at the university and faculty council.
Every student and staff can vote twice: one for the university council and one for the registered faculty council. However, some faculties don’t have an election because there are as many candidates as seats to be allocated.
