The investigation into disgraced lecturer of cognitive sciences Tjeerd Andringa has finished, but the university has so far stayed silent on what’s in the final report. There’s also been no mention of whether the report will be made public.
‘That hasn’t been decided yet’, says UG spokesperson Anja Hulshof. The investigation – executed by an external investigative committee chaired by Leiden professor Paul van der Heijden – is now finished. ‘We have obviously received the report’, says Hulshof.
‘We shared it with Tjeerd Andringa, as it concerns him’, she says. ‘We’re discussing further steps. It’s true that it’s taking a bit longer than we’d originally thought, but all I can say right now is that we’re working on it.’
Conspiracy theories
Andringa was suspended on January 31 because of the conspiracy theories he expounded during his classes at the University College Groningen. After UKrant published a story on him, the UG announced an independent investigation into the matter.
The results were originally expected to be in before the summer holidays, but the investigation didn’t conclude until well into the summer months.
Andringa’s suspension would originally last until the investigation was finished. According to the UG spokesperson, he is currently not teaching any classes, either.
