The Groninger Museum has acquired the painting The Allegory of Time. The work by the Groningen artist Hermannus Collenius (1650-1723) was once part of a fully painted room in the building located at Oude Boteringestraat 23, which is now part of the Faculty of Arts.
The painting depicts one of the oldest cityscapes of Groningen, featuring the building at number 23 – known as the House with the 13 Temples – as it appeared before its renovation in 1710. The Groninger Museum now possesses five of the eight paintings from the building and the painted ceiling. The Allegory of Time has been on display since Tuesday.
