Crush barriers and doorman now standard
Vindicat tightens corona measures at Mutua Fides
The decision to tighten measures comes three days after a group of approximately thirty Vindicat members were seen standing close together near the front door. Sanna Buurke, cluster coordinator at the arts faculty, witnessed this and posted a photo on Twitter.
The incident on Friday notwithstanding, Vindicat rector Wessel Giezen says members usually comply with the rules. ‘We’ve been receiving large groups and so far, we haven’t had any problems with the way they entered the building. This is the first time we witnessed such a build-up.’
But he still had crush barriers installed in front of the club house, as well as demarcations on the ground to keep the members in line. They’ve also employed a doorman. ‘The doorman is a member of the association, not an outside security officer’, Giezen explains.
As far as he’s concerned, the barriers will stay up as long as the national corona measures justify doing so, but they’ll mainly be used when necessary. ‘It depends on the type of event we’re organising. We’ll need them when we have a lot of large groups coming in for a busy night.’
This is the second time in a short period when a group of Vindicat members didn’t obey the corona measures in or around the club house. Two weeks ago, during prime minister Mark Rutte’s previous press conference, a visitor to the Groningen Forum snapped a photo of a group of members standing close together and even hugging each other on the building’s balcony. The group was banned from the club house for ten days.
