On Saturday, 29 March, there will be a partial solar eclipse: nearly a quarter of the sun’s surface will be covered. In Groningen, the eclipse will start at 11:20 a.m., reaches its maximum at 12:13 p.m., and ends at 1:07 p.m.
Telescopes will be set up at various locations throughout the province, where astronomers from the UG will provide explanations. Eclipse glasses will also be available at these spots. In the city, there are two locations: the Forum Groningen roof and at Café Zondag in the Noorderplantsoen.
The last solar eclipse in the Netherlands was on 25 October, 2022, and it was clearly visible in the northern part of the country. If the weather is cloudy on 29 March, we will have to wait until 12 August, 2026.
