Student association Vindicat has suspended eighty students for three days after reports of misconduct during a ski trip in France. Vindicat intends to use this time to investigate who was responsible for what.
According to Sikkom, the ski trip was not officially organized by Vindicat, but the association still feels responsible. The board of Vindicat stated that many details remain unclear. As a precaution, all students who participated in the trip are temporarily banned from the association’s premises at Grote Markt for three days while the investigation is underway.
Sikkom reports that the group of Vindicat members misbehaved at a hotel in Risoul, a resort in the French Alps. Reported incidents include defecating on balconies, pouring dish soap over computers, and urinating in the elevator. Additionally, a video has surfaced showing someone smashing their head through a door while being cheered on by others.
Warnings issued
The Vindicat students had booked their trip through the travel agency Sunweb, which had repeatedly warned them following complaints — not only from the hotel but also from a ski rental shop and a bar. Eventually, the entire group was expelled from the hotel. On Thursday, Sunweb arranged buses to transport them back to Groningen.
‘We have been organizing student trips for years’, a spokesperson for Sunweb told Sikkom. ‘Most of the time, things go very well. Of course, incidents happen occasionally, but this was exceptional.’ Sunweb has also launched an investigation to assess the extent of the damage to the hotel.
