Over fifty years ago, students took to the barricades – literally. They demanded democracy and a say in how the university was run.
And they got it. Ever since, through the university, faculty, and service councils, students and staff have been able to take part in decision-making about the University of Groningen’s policies.
This week, from 12 to 16 May, elections for these councils are taking place again. Staff members can choose between two parties for the university council, while students have as many as five options.
So how do these elections work? And what are they really about? In the new video series ‘UKrant explains’, UKrant explains it.
