680 kilometers and 206 meters in 24 hours—1,863 laps in total. Artificial intelligence student Jochem Kerssies (25) is now the world record holder for 24-hour ice skating as of last Saturday.
The record attempt began on Friday evening at 7:00 PM at Sportcentrum Kardinge, officially kicked off by (now former) record holder Jan Roelof Kruithof, who skated 655 kilometers in 1994.
Kerssies broke the record around 6:00 PM on Saturday—23 hours after starting his first lap. But he wasn’t done yet; he had to keep skating for another hour to solidify his new record.
UKrant‘s cameras followed the student closely for 24 hours.
